My name is Jessica and I am so happy you are here! The Texas Electric School Bus Project is such an exciting project to be a part of and I am privileged to work for the children here in the great state of Texas. When I do this work, it is children everywhere that I have in mind.
When I was growing up, I was fortunate to encounter the powerful idea that we do not inherit the world from our ancestors, but that we borrow it from our children. To my young mind this was the answer I had been waiting for, and I felt the proverbial lightbulb click on above my head. I looked around and saw that even in 2001, even in my small farm town in the north of Idaho, that same lightbulb was alight over so many other people’s heads. I also was fortunate to find out (admittedly through trial and lots of error) that with a little patience and a lot of perspective it was possible to help other people fire up those same circuits. And thus, my lifelong passion was born.
I am passionate about empowering people with knowledge. I am passionate about starting and having difficult conversations that spark growth and movement. I am passionate about identifying collaborators and bringing people together to solve problems. I believe in an abundant future for our children and we can get there joyfully, together.
I grew up in the fertile North Carolina piedmont, and later, nestled among the rolling hills of the Palouse in northern Idaho. I helped raise chickens, tended to an orchard and generally enjoyed the wild beauty of the rural Northwest. Later, I attended Rice University where I received my B.A. with a double major in History and Visual Arts. While at Rice I was a member of the Speech and Debate Team, the Music Director of the Rice University radio station KTRU and an employee of the incredible Rice University Art Gallery.
I love Houston and live in the Historic Heights neighborhood with my husband, Colby, our two wonderful little boys and our two sweet dogs. I love to read, write poetry, grow plants indoors and outdoors, sing jazz and country music and explore small town Texas. I look forward to meeting you!
